We continue towards Andasibe National Park, one of Madagascar’s most visited destinations, one of the easiest to access and one of the country’s best places for observing lemurs. It is also considered one of the world’s outstanding destinations for primate observation.
The park is located near the village of Andasibe, sometimes referred to as Périnet, which is actually the name of the former railway station.

Dinner and overnight at Relais d’Andasibe.
Today is dedicated to exploring Andasibe National Park, located in the eastern part of Madagascar’s Central Highlands.
The nearby Analamazaotra Forest is a mid-altitude tropical rainforest situated between 900 and 1,250 metres above sea level. Covering approximately 810 hectares, it borders the larger Andasibe-Mantadia National Park and several other important forests, including Maromizaha.
For first-time visitors to Madagascar, spending a night in this region is highly recommended, as it is one of the best places in the country to observe the Indri (Indri indri), Madagascar’s largest living lemur.
Two groups of indris living in the surrounding forest have become accustomed to visitors and can be observed relatively easily with the assistance of local guides.
In addition to the indri, several other lemur species can be observed relatively easily in Analamazaotra, including:
Diademed sifakas are now relatively easy to observe in the same area as the habituated indri groups, while ruffed lemurs are more difficult to spot.
It is also possible to encounter the red-bellied lemur (Eulemur rubriventer) and the aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis), although sightings of these species are much rarer.

We begin the day with a visit to the Zazamalala Association.
Zazamalala’s approach to nature conservation and reforestation is based on a comprehensive strategy that combines the protection of wildlife and plant species with the active involvement of local communities.
In addition to reforestation and the breeding of endangered species, community development is a major priority. The association aims to provide as many local people as possible with paid employment in forestry-related activities, helping to strengthen their economic independence.
The association also carries out awareness programmes focusing on nature conservation, climate change and health.

In the late afternoon, we head towards the famous Avenue of the Baobabs, located in western Madagascar, approximately 40 minutes from Morondava.
Along the road between the two destinations, you will have the opportunity to admire Madagascar’s spectacular baobabs. A particularly famous 250-metre stretch is known as the Avenue of the Baobabs, thanks to its dramatic and highly photogenic landscape.
These majestic trees can reach heights of up to 30 metres. They belong to the species Adansonia grandidieri and are regarded as one of the iconic symbols of Madagascar. Some of these giant trees are believed to be more than 800 years old.
