On Sainte-Marie, our partnership with Princesse Bora Lodge & Spa grows with every stay we arrange together. Bemiray Tours designs and runs your journey, from your flight out of Antananarivo to your days out on the lagoon, while Princesse Bora welcomes you to its eco-lodge right on the water’s edge, among coconut palms and wooden villas. Two teams with one shared aim: for you to experience the island to the full.

Take two and a half minutes to soak up the atmosphere of the lodge: the beach and its jetty, the lagoon from above, the spa treatments, the food and those gentle evenings by the water.

Sainte-Marie, the lagoon island

An hour’s flight from Antananarivo, Sainte-Marie runs along Madagascar’s east coast, sheltered by a lagoon of clear water. The island has kept its soul: fishing villages, forests where vanilla, cloves and cinnamon grow, and the traces of the pirates who dropped anchor here in the 17th and 18th centuries. From July to September, humpback whales come to give birth just off the shore.

The Princesse Bora way

Two minutes from the airport and right on the lagoon, the lodge offers a simple, authentic kind of luxury in harmony with nature. Three things sum up the experience.

Charm villas for two, Luxury villas designed for families, or 90 m² Executive villas with a stone bathtub and a private garden leading to the sea.

The Anoka Jungle Spa

A round house inspired by African traditions, treatments using natural products from the lodge’s own plantations, and a signature ritual: a citrus bath in a traditional pirogue.

Dining by the sea

At the Beach Grill Restaurant, fish takes centre stage, alongside vegetables from the organic garden and Malagasy and Creole flavours. Two bars, one of them out on a jetty, keep the evening going.

As a committed eco-lodge, Princesse Bora produces its own water on the island to do away with plastic bottles, sources locally and takes part in Sainte-Marie’s waste management. It is an approach that matches our own: sharing Madagascar while respecting the people who live there.

Just be there!

The motto of Princesse Bora Lodge & Spa

Together, for your stay

Our role is to make Sainte-Marie a smooth stop that is tailored to you. We book your flights between Antananarivo and the island, your nights at the lodge and your activities, and help you choose the right time to go: whale season from July to September, or quieter months to make the most of the lagoon.

Diving with the Bora Dive centre, a trip to Île aux Nattes, a quad or 4×4 tour of the island, a boat outing to see the whales: we put together the programme that suits you. Sainte-Marie is also the final stop on our Authentic East tour, and our Humpback whales page tells you everything about the season.
