Travelling responsibly in Madagascar

Hands planting a young tree in the soil

At Bemiray, respect for people, culture and nature is part of our charter. Travelling responsibly also means enjoying a richer journey. Here are a few simple guidelines.

Respect local customs

In Madagascar, “fady” are taboos specific to each region, each village and sometimes each family. Your guide will explain them: respecting them honours those who welcome you. Always ask before photographing someone.

Support the local economy

Choose local artisans, markets and restaurants. We work with Malagasy providers, NGOs and associations so that your trip benefits communities directly.

Protect a unique natural world

The vast majority of the island’s species live nowhere else. In the parks, visits are made with a local guide: stay on the trails, don’t feed the animals and take your rubbish away with you. A reusable water bottle cuts down on plastic bottles.

Give, but give wisely

Rather than handing out sweets or money to children, support a local association or school: our travel consultants can point you towards trustworthy projects.

Humanism, nature, the environment and cultural heritage: these are the values we invite you to share with us throughout your journey.
